CRYSTAL ACADEMY: Safeguarding, Terms and Conditions

Crystal Academy: Aerial Arts and Dance CIC

Crystal Academy is a registered Community Interest Company committed to providing a safe, inclusive and high-quality environment for all participants. Our safeguarding procedures and minimum operating standards have been reviewed and approved by Staffordshire County Council and the Staffordshire Council of Voluntary Youth Services.

We ensure all necessary licensing requirements are met for events and showcases delivered directly by the Academy, including business insurance, the provision of appropriately licensed chaperones, qualified first aiders, and staff holding enhanced DBS certification.

Crystal Academy is managed by Jason and Kirsty Kolmer, a husband-and-wife team with over a decade of combined experience working with children and young people within dance, education, SEN and the performing arts.

Kirsty Kolmer holds qualifications in Performing Arts, Sports Science, Gym Instruction, and Dance Movement Psychotherapy. Having trained in dance from the age of three, her choreography has supported students in theatre productions, national and international competitions, and performances alongside advanced-level and collegiate dancers.

Jason Kolmer, an ex-military professional and qualified tutor, oversees the operational, safeguarding, and business development aspects of the Academy.

 Important Information and Terms

  • Membership Payments: Where payment is made via direct debit, a minimum of 30 days’ notice is required for cancellation. Class fees are calculated across the year and already account for holiday closures. It is the responsibility of the account holder to notify the Academy of any cancellation. Failure to do so may result in continued payments, for which Crystal Academy cannot be held liable.
  • Events and Competitions: By enrolling your child in any competition, event, intensive, or showcase, you agree that all associated fees are non-refundable at any time.
  • Behaviour and Conduct: Crystal Academy maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy towards rudeness, inappropriate behaviour, or misconduct. This applies to all members, parents, and carers. We reserve the right to withdraw services where standards are not upheld.
  • Competition Attendance Requirements: Absence of two weeks or more from a competition team, or failure to attend final rehearsals, may result in removal from the performance or entry. In such cases, fees remain non-refundable.
  • Additional Needs and Support: Our staff have experience supporting neurodiverse children and aim to provide an inclusive environment. However, Crystal Academy is not a specialist SEN provision. Parents and carers are encouraged to discuss any additional needs with us in advance of enrolment.
  • Capacity and Support Limitations: While we strive to accommodate all participants, there may be occasions where we are unable to provide the level of support required for more complex needs within group class settings.
  • Costumes and Academy Property: Any costumes or Academy property issued to members are provided in good faith and remain the property of Crystal Academy at all times. Items must be returned in the condition they were issued, allowing for reasonable wear and tear. Where items are not returned, are damaged beyond reasonable use, or require replacement, the Academy reserves the right to request reimbursement for repair or replacement costs.
